Description

Aerial Fiber Optic Cables are engineered for outdoor network infrastructures where the cable is installed above ground—typically along poles, messenger wires or utility structures. These cables must withstand constant exposure to wind load, UV radiation, temperature shifts, ice buildup and mechanical vibration. Their construction ensures long-term stability, low attenuation and reliable performance in environments where both environmental forces and installation constraints are more demanding than underground routes.

Designed for telecommunications providers, power utilities, municipalities and FTTx deployments, aerial cables deliver high-performance transmission while enabling faster installation and easier access for maintenance compared to buried alternatives.

Aerial cables combine mechanical strength, weather resistance and optical stability through reinforced structural elements tailored to the installation method. Depending on the cable type, these may include:

  1. All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) designs, engineered to carry their own weight without metallic components, ideal for crossing power line routes and areas with electrical fields.

  2. Figure-8 cables with an integrated or stranded messenger wire for additional tensile strength, suitable for aerial spans supported by existing pole infrastructure.

  3. Aramid yarn or fiberglass reinforcement for tensile load distribution during installation and long-span support.

  4. UV-resistant PE jackets that offer strong protection against sunlight, weathering and temperature cycling.

Multi loose tube or single loose tube configurations maintain stable optical performance, while water-blocking materials provide protection in humid climates and condensation-prone environments.

Application Scenarios

Aerial fiber optic cables are deployed across a wide variety of above-ground routes:

  1. Telecommunications aerial distribution networks

  2. FTTx deployments along poles and urban corridors

  3. Long-span rural broadband routes where terrain makes trenching impractical

  4. Utility and power line infrastructures (especially ADSS for non-metallic safety)

  5. Campus networks or industrial facilities requiring easy access and rapid maintenance

  6. Bridge crossings or elevated routes where underground pathways are impossible

Their lightweight, reinforced design enables reliable performance in areas with high wind exposure, ice load potential or frequent temperature fluctuation.
